Kerbside collection
Brown bin (weekly)

  • Meat and fish – raw or cooked including bones
  • Fruit and vegetables – raw or cooked
  • Dairy products such as cheese
  • Eggs – including shells
  • Bread, cake and pastries
  • Rice, pasta, beans
  • Uneaten food from plates and dishes
  • Tea bags, coffee grounds


  • Plastic, biodegradable bags
  • Packaging of any sort
  • – but you can use compostable liners from supermarkets: look for the logo.

Grey box (Weekly)

  • Plastic bottles (lids may be left on but please squash the bottle first)
  • Household plastic pots, tubs, trays
  • Food and drinks cans and lids
  • Aerosols, foil


  • Plastic film, carrier bags*, bubble wrap
  • Crisps, bread, biscuit wrappers
  • Black plastic (including pots, trays)
  • Hard plastic (eg garden furniture)
  • DIY and garden chemical bottles
  • Polystyrene packing or trays
  • Tapes, CDs, toys

*Carrier bags and other polythene bags can be recycled at Sainsbury’s, on the right in the foyer
Green box (Weekly)

  • Paper, envelopes (all colours)
  • Cardboard (all colours)
  • Food and drink cartons (eg tetrapaks)
  • Telephone directories, magazines
  • Glass bottles, jars
  • Clothes, shoes
  • Batteries (place car batteries beside the box)
  • Cooking oil, engine oil (in a sealed container)
  • Small electrical items (smaller than a toaster)
  • Spectacles
  • Empty printer cartridges
  • Mobile phones


  • Broken glass and jars
  • Light bulbs
  • Plate glass (mirror and window glass)
  • Pyrex
  • Ornaments, toys

Green bin (Fortnightly)

  • Leaves
  • Small branches, twigs
  • Grass cuttings
  • Plant and hedge clippings
  • Cut flowers


  • Food and vegetable waste
  • Soil, stones
  • Animal waste, pet bedding

Black bin (Fortnightly)

  • Polystyrene
  • Crisp and sweet wrapping
  • Dog and cat waste (wrapped)
  • Plastic carrier bags
  • Any other waste that cannot be recycled


  • Hot ash
  • Bricks, rubble, soil, other heavy items
  • Large electrical items

October to March
Thursday – Monday 8 am – 4 pm. Tuesday and Wednesday closed
