No Cold Calling Zone

The first No Cold Calling Zone, designed to reduce the number of uninvited sales people visiting properties, has been launched in Neston. Signage has been installed on Greenfields Drive. The signs warn people they are entering an area where residents do not buy goods or services at the door from uninvited people. The signs are intended to act as a deterrent and provide support to residents, empowering them to say ‘No’ to cold callers.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Trading Standards Service and Cheshire Constabulary advise that residents do not buy goods or services at the door and inform any unwanted doorstep caller of this. It is recommended to obtain quotes from several independent traders before deciding on any work. Try to use traders who have been recommended by family or friends.

Residents are encouraged to ring the Citizens Advice Consumer Service during office hours to report unwanted or suspicious doorstep callers on 08454 04 05 06.

Officers from the Council’s Doorstep Crime team will be able to give advice and, where necessary, attend the scene and speak with a trader.

Residents may also call the police non-emergency number on 101 to report suspicious callers.
