The very festive Neston Christmas Market was held on Friday 6th December. It was a perfect opportunity for browsing the market stalls both inside and out, enjoying the tasty artisan ‘Foodie Friday’ treats on offer and being entertained by the talented pupils of Neston High School, St Winefrides Primary School and Woodfall Primary School, as well as the Neston Singers.
Refreshments were provided in the Town Hall by the Neston Fairtrade Town Group who have recently succeeded in making Neston a Fairtrade Town.
The Mayor of Neston, Cllr Dominic Roberts & Julie Tinsley
The Neston Market Trader of the Year Award for 2019 was awarded to Tinsley’s Fruit and Veg. The award was presented by The Mayor & Deputy Mayors of Neston, Cllr Dominic Roberts. Tinsley’s have been very supportive of all of the market events and changes during the year and their award is very well deserved. The Council and markets staff would like to congratulate them.
Tinsley’s is a family business that was started 70 years ago. Today, it is run by Howard, Julie, and Ben. Their produce is collected fresh daily, from 2 local farms, to ensure quality but sold at very competitive prices and it is always served with a smile.
Val Jones & Cllr Dominic Roberts
A second ‘Special Recognition’ award was presented to Val Jones of Bluebonnet Sweets for the time she volunteers to successfully run the Neston Markets Facebook page on behalf of the Neston Market Traders. Since Val took over this task earlier in the year the page has gone from strength to strength with the number of followers significantly increasing, she does a brilliant job of getting information about the wonderful market out to the public.
The prize for the ‘Most Festive Stall’ was presented jointly to ‘Carmatara’ Jewellery and ‘Digger & Dozer’ handmade dog accessories.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Christine Warner, admires the most festive stall
The market was a great start to the festive season, following on from the fantastic Christmas Lights switch on event at the weekend. The weather was very kind to us and the atmosphere was buzzing.
Neston Market will be holding the last Foodie Friday event of the year on Friday 20th December, to give shoppers chance to stock up artisan produce, gifts and fresh fruit and vegetables closer to the big day itself.
