Mathews and Monk Charity

Following the deaths in the late 1800s of Nessie Mathews and John Monk, two local Neston people, each bequeathed a sum of money to Neston Parish Church for the Vicar at that time to distribute to poor and needy persons living in the Parish of Neston.

Nessie Mathews and John Monk Charity also known as Mathews and Monk Charity was registered by the Charity Commission in 1915, the Charity’s objects being ” for the benefit of the poor and needy of the parish of Neston generally”.

Today, by holding fundraising events and donations received, the Trustees continue the Charity’s work by distributing Christmas gifts, by way of Sainsbury’s vouchers, to needy people local to the area of Neston.

Over recent years the Charity has also given a young person’s award to a Neston student going on to further education/apprenticeship to be spent on materials, equipment or books needed for studies.

The Charity is administered by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The Trustees are Anne Tudor, Anne Jones, Judith Pugh and Louise Gittins.
