Cheshire West Voluntary Arts Awards
Little Actors won the Children and Young People category. The award is a beautiful bespoke ceramic dish. At the awards at Chester Town Hall the Chair of the judging panel gave the following citation:

Little Actors Theatre was set up and developed over a period of years by professional actor Samantha Giblin. For 12 years now the Little Actors Theatre has had a Neston base. Its main aim is to ensure there is affordable access to the professionally led performing arts for children and young people of all ages.
It delivers its activities through four separate groups; drama tots for 2.5 to 4 year olds including their parents/ carers, Theatre Club for 5 to 11 year olds, InterACT for 11 years plus, Neston Young Writers for ages 12 plus as well as summer Performing A course for Primary School Children.

They make significant subsidies to ensure wide inclusion and participation as well as actively encouraging young people with physical and/or learning difficulties. They are natural collaborators and engage with groups across the North West and more locally they actively engage in local community events. The quality of their work is award winning and highly regarded. The panel recognized that Little Actors Theatre demonstrates that working creatively with children and young people has not only the power to change their lives but through their community engagement, has the potential to improve the quality of the community in which they live.
We are delighted to make this award to The Little Actors Theatre Neston”

At the recent Leverhulme Drama Festival, Neston’s InterACT Youth Theatre came top. With their production of ‘The Snow Dragons’ by Lizzie Nunnery the group won the Under 16s category trophy and the special Adjudicators Trophy. Adjudicator Richard Woodward described the show as a ‘stunning production’. The group aged 11-16 years demonstrated impeccable team work and with strong acting and great production values they impressed on every level. Accepting the awards at the Gladstone Theatre were Jonathan Stevens (16), Joshua Stevens (13), Evie Lambert and Emily Houghton (12) plus youngest member Matthew Latham aged 11. As the highest scoring youth group InterACT will be put forward for the All England final in July.

InterACT Youth Theatre has presented the play as part of the National Theatre’s Connections programme of new writing for young people. They have had the experience of performing in their home town of Neston as well as at The Quays Theatre at The Lowry and the Gladstone Theatre Port Sunlight. The play, by Liverpool Everyman playwright Lizzie Nunnery, is a moving piece of theatre about how children are challenged to grow up because for the actions of adults. In this case the children form the resistance group the Snow Dragons in the face of the Nazi invasion of Norway.
