Neston Community Cybercentre

Neston Cyber CentreNeston Community Cybercentre was started up with government funding and has been located in the Methodist Church, Park Street, Neston, since 2001.

Two years ago we lost the funding and the PCs were removed, however, with the help of Project Rural Matters, the Cybercentre decided to re-equip and become independent.

At the same time we decided to make membership free to all residents of Neston, Little Neston, Ness, Parkgate, Burton, Puddington, and Willaston.

However, as the Cybercentre relies on grants from Cheshire County Council and help from local companies like Somerfield, we do ask users to make a donation, if they find the service useful, to help us cover our costs.

The present

So what does the CyberCentre have to offer? There are 10 PCs, all connected to the Internet, with a range of software including Office 2002, scanners and printers. There are two Buddies on hand at each session, to give 'one to one' assistance with access to the Internet, setting up email accounts and most problems that Users may encounter.

There are currently over 200 active Users, who come to the CyberCentre for a number of reasons; emailing family and friends, booking flights and holidays on-line, practicing Word, Excel and ECDL between weekly college classes, family history research, manipulating digital photographs and many other activities. The Centre runs occasional workshops on digital photograph management and editing, and greetings card making.

Anyone interested in using the Centre or becoming a Buddy will be most welcome.
