Since 1948 Burton Manor College has been a centre of development for people who have come for professional and/or personal reasons on short day or residential courses.
The gardens, along with those at Briarfields in Burton, also open once a year under the National Garden Scheme.
The college's respected reputation has been built on the support and development we are able to offer all those who come to us, whatever their purpose, be it personal, business or community benefit.
For some of our 'students', Burton Manor has been a true part of their lives for many years.
Burton Manor is a place of learning with a difference: set in a pleasant rural location in Wirral, Cheshire, near to the Welsh border.
Housed in a 19th Century Manor, with its own stunning grounds and gardens., we provide a short term residential learning venue with the feel of a rural retreat with views over the Dee estuary and the Welsh hills.
Learning is our business, the basis of our values and our sense of purpose. With a distinctive and welcoming environment, Burton Manor offers adults at all stages of their lives an opportunity to spend time with like minded people on a restorative break.
We say: "Enrich your life through learning..." and the Burton Manor experience is one we find our users return to again and again, year after year, to enjoy quality learning delivered by hand-picked expert specialist tutors, good home-prepared food, attentive hospitality and pleasant company.
Burton Manor features an historic garden designed by the famous landscape designer Thomas Mawson in 1906. Today this is still as he intended with geometric gardens on the east, south and north sides of the house.
The east garden, through an ornamental stone gateway, is a sunken parterre overhung with mature trees. By contrast, the north garden is an elegant enclosure raised above the forecourt.
Taking tea on the terrace you look across the south garden, with its yew hedges surrounding formal compartments on either side of a lily pond, to the fields beyond.
The garden is open to the public on one day in June each year. Check the what's on pages for more information:
