Situated on the River Dee side of the Wirral Peninsula, midway between the cities of Chester and Liverpool and close to the gateway to North Wales, it has many features of interest for visitors.

For the less energetic a stroll along the promenade at Parkgate gives the opportunity to sample the nationally famous, homemade ice cream whilst taking in the views over the estuary. Another national treasure in the area is Ness Gardens with its close links with Kew Gardens.
The history of the town can be traced to pre Viking times and at one stage in 18th Century, it was the main port serving Ireland, France and Spain prior to Liverpool being established.
A plethora of building styles in the town centre reflects the expansion of the town in this era and characters like Lady Hamilton and Grenfell of Labrador were born here. With ancient traditions, summer festival, good eating and fine hostelries the town is attractive to visitors from far and wide.
